Flamand J.R.B. 1990. An outbreak of tuberculosis in a herd of Arabian oryx. Diagnosis and management. In: Abstracts of the Sixth International Conference on Wildlife Diseases, Berlin. P. 21.

Summary: An outbreak of tuberculosis in a captive herd of Arabian oryx is described. The diagnostic screening tests used on live animals and the difficulties in their interpretation are discussed. These stem principally from the fact that false negatives and positives were encountered, with the threshold of positivity being difficult to establish in the ELISA test. The presence of other mycobacterial infections in the environment was almost certainly a complicating factor. The present method of interpretation of the various tests, and how they are used in screening and managing the animals concerned, is discussed.
