Summary: Twenty-one species of mammals in Saudi Arabia are threatened with extinction. Hunting and adverse ecological conditions are the main threats of extinction. The Arabian oryx was extinguished in the wild and considerable efforts are now being conducted in Jordan, Oman and Saudi Arabia to reintroduce this animal. It is suggested that similar procedures may be needed for other mammalian species threatened with extinction in Saudi Arabia.
